And now for something completely different

Wow. The poor hen. :)

A 50-year-old Zambian man has hanged himself after his wife found him having sex with a hen, police said Friday.

Dunce or stupid?

Black men need to realize that it's all about education.

Boys growing up nowadays are either very fickle or very stupid. Many want fame overnight without ever having to work for it. They want to drive fancy cars without having to break sweat, not realising that when things come too easily they have no appreciation for what they have. Hence, they are prone to lose them just as quickly as they got them.

Meanwhile, many of our girls seeing our boys dig their own financial graves and burying their futures, are looking out for themselves. They are getting themselves educated and reaping the benefits.

And the boys keep fooling themselves, thinking that when they see a woman these days pushing a BMW, she got it from her man. The reality these days is that the vehicle may belong to her man, but she bought it for him.

U.S. Says Soldier in Lynch's Unit Was Executed

Walters "was held separately from his fellow soldiers and killed while in custody," according to a National Guard news release.

"He was executed — shot twice in the back," Guard spokesman Maj. Arnold Strong said in a telephone interview Thursday. "An Iraqi ambulance driver witnessed six Fedayeen rebels standing outside a building guarding him while he was still alive. That same witness evacuated his dead body to a hospital."

It was several hours between the time he was seen being led into the building and his body was brought out, the Guard said.

All Abu Ghraib all the time

This article sums the Abu Ghraib situation for me. Those who did it will be punished so the press needs to move on and focus on the big picture.

Taranto cites the Abu Ghraib abuses being raised in anniversary stories about the Nuremberg trials, even in stories about sagging consumer trust in U.S. brand names like McDonald's, Coca-Cola, Microsoft, Disney and Nike in a study "conducted before the news of the Abu Ghraib prison abuse scandal broke."

Public seems indifferent

What has Abu Ghraib got to do with Coca-Cola? Non sequitur stuff.

I suspect the media is more outraged at Abu Ghraib than the American public. The "ordinary" Americans most upset at the goings-on are, I also suspect, soldiers.

Gore Demands Bush Team Resignations

Reaching decibels usually reserved for ball games and boxing matches, former Vice President Al Gore (search) on Wednesday denounced the Bush administration policy in Iraq and called for the resignation of three central players in the War on Terror.

1,000 Feared Dead in Caribbean Storm

As search crews worked to recover bodies from devastated towns and villages in the two countries that share the island of Hispaniola, U.S.-led troops delivered bread, fruit and bottled water, and international aid employees fanned out to assess the damage.

The death toll was about 950, but the number was expected to jump. In the Haitian town of Mapou, as many as 1,000 people could be dead, said Margarette Martin, the government's representative for the southeast region in nearby Jacmel. Only about 300 bodies had been counted so far, said Dr. Yvon Lavissiere, the health director for the region.

Terror Threat

Adam Yahiye Gadahn is being sought in connection with possible terrorist threats against the United States," the FBI said. "Although the FBI has no information indicating this individual is connected to any specific terrorist activities, the FBI would like to locate and question this person. He should be considered armed and dangerous."

"He is known to have performed translations … as part of the services he has provided to Al Qaeda," the FBI said.

Omar Gadahn, a college student, said he hasn't seen his brother in about five years. His mother last spoke to him by phone in March 2001. At that time he was in Pakistan, working at a newspaper, and his wife was about to have a child.

FBI officials in Los Angeles said Adam Gadahn was last known to be in Southern California in 1997 or 1998.

Women in Iraq

A small incident, perhaps — yet it's hard to overstate its symbolism, or the problems its portends for Iraq's future. Something frightening lies at the heart of this nation, I've come to understand, something dark, irrational, thuggish, especially among the "ignorant men" of its lower classes. In public, it often takes the forms of a weaponized stare that glowers at an unescorted woman — or a woman accompanied by a foreigner — as if yearning to see her disgrace herself, do something scandalous or un-Islamic, in order to fuel invidious gossip and innuendo. In private, it manifests itself in the threat, and frequently the reality, of violence to restrain and subjugate females. To accommodate and placate this malevolence, Iraqi females learn to repress their own behavior and instincts, while safeguarding their most important social possession — reputation.

Sharia in Canada

Arjomand told them flatly that under the guise of protecting religious freedom and multiculturalism — the fear, perhaps, of offending the Muslim community's male leadership — they were about to let the rights of Canadian Muslim women be trampled on.

Most at risk are young immigrants, said Arjomand, who come from the Middle East or North Africa, where sharia is the law and has been used to subjugate them their entire lives. They know nothing different.

Now that sharia tribunals are to operate here, she says, many women will be socially and psychologically coerced into participating. To refuse would mean rejection by their families and the community — or worse.

"In a straight disagreement between a husband and wife, the husband's testimony will prevail. That is sharia. Even those women who know they can appeal will not challenge an arbitration decision for fear of the consequences."

Despite what the attorney-general's office blithely assumes, she says, it's unlikely decisions contrary to Canadian law will ever show up before the courts.

Ontario sharia tribunals assailed

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Suspicions about a new terrorist attack have U.S. spies scrambling

The chatter was persistent--and alarming. In the weeks after the deadly March bombings of four commuter trains in Madrid by al Qaeda operatives, the supersecret U.S. surveillance network, Echelon, intercepted a number of messages from suspected terrorists suggesting planning for a massive, multipronged assault on the United States. When? Between this summer's political conventions and October, one month before the presidential election. The intelligence appeared to confirm information obtained from some seized al Qaeda computers and from several human sources, government officials say.

Studio One

However, while there was a sombre note with some, many others used the opportunity to renew old acquaintances. Others skanked in the courtyard to sweet harmonies from the trumpets of the Alpha Boys Band, and old Studio One rhythms as they transformed the event into a festive occasion. Dozens of photographers jostled for good shots of the Dodd family while several amateur cameramen were out in their numbers recording the event for posterity.

Bitter row over Haiti splits CBC

A bitter divide has opened up in the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) over what approach it should adopt toward the interim government in Haiti, with roughly six members refusing to recognize provisional Prime Minister Gerard Latortue.

Maxine Walters should think about what would happen to Aristide if the US decided to drop him off on a street corner in Haiti. Maybe that's not such a bad idea...

Sarin Math

The evangelical outpost has a great article on sarin.

3-4 liters equates to roughly 50,000 drops, enough sarin to kill 50 thousand people.

The press doesn't think this is that big of a deal.

It's not about sex!

For example, we have our weekly pyjama party, prior to which, we have what is called 'battle of the sexes' (which is really men competing against women in playful sex-related activities). Properly clothed men and women get 10 seconds to demonstrate as many sexual positions as possible and are adjudged based on creativity

No WMDs in Iraq

Despite the following, Hans Blix and David Kay still insist that there are no WMDs in Iraq. That sure makes me feel better...NOT!

"The frightening development, along with the recent finding of a mustard-gas shell near the Syrian border, raised fears inside the Pentagon that Ba'athist terrorists may have gotten their hands on a chemical arsenal of unknown size. "

Beheading, prison abuses can't be linked

Good article by Salim Mansur from the Toronto Sun.

This is barbarism in full flight. And it has a lengthy, sordid history within the Arab-Muslim world.

We have seen images of such barbarity as in the ritual killings of veiled women in crowded public stadiums of Afghanistan under the Taliban, and the sadistic killing in public of Najibullah, the former Afghan leader, with his testicles removed and his orifices stuffed with cigarette stubs.

Greek extremist group threatens Olympic visitors

I'm getting the feeling that something is going to happen at this Olympics. I'm very nervous for the athletes, especially the US athletes in Greece.

www.smh.com.au - Greek extremist group threatens Olympic visitors

I have heard that Greece is very anti-American. I wonder how the US athletes are going to react to the stress of competing in that environment. Not to mention the threat of terrorism. I hope the US is providing it's own security for US athletes.

I wouldn't go to the Olympics in Greece if someone paid me. I'll be anxiously watching on TV though.

Good. Now he can get the hell out of Jamaica. I don't know why Patterson agreed to host him there in the first place.

Religion of Peace(tm)?

I wonder if President Bush really believes that Islam is the Religion of Peace(tm)?

Why is it that every conflict lately seems to involve Muslims? Is there something about this religion that makes it incompatible with other religions? Cutting someone's head off is not peaceful.
